Udharanam Sujata which means Example Sujata. This is another gem of a movie made in South India. The movie stars Manju Warrier. She is an established superstar and has natural acting and dialogue delivering abilities. This movie is an inspiration for one an all talks about a relationship of a Mother and Daughter.
Sujata is a widow survived by her daughter. She does odd jobs like being a servant in the house works day and night to educate her daughter. She wants her to complete her education and become something in life. Her daughter on the other hand is shown as an irresponsible kid who wants to enjoy her life. She is neither interested in her studies is often bullied by teachers for getting failed. She is however not bothered by all this. All she wants is to play, watch tv. When her mom scolds her she says why do I need to study, I will eventually get married after 10th. The mother gets shattered on hearing this story, she explains her that it is an important class and you won't get admissions in college if you go this way. Sujata explains this to her master, her master is a retired college professor who understands her struggle. She asks her why don't you complete 10th along with your daughter. She thinks this is a stupid idea and if she does this then her daughter will not study. the professor explains that this is the only way you can challenge your daughter to study. On getting the admission on the same class as her daughters the kids in the class laugh, the daughter on the other hand is embarassed.
On reaching home she asks her mom to leave the school. She says she will continue and you can do what you want. Slowly her mom learns her stuff and give answer to the questions raised by teachers. The daughter feels jealous and also her friends become close to her mom. She decides to study hard and competes with her mom. However, she does not pass on the interim exam. She gets annyoed. The mother on the other hand joins another job in a hotel to earn money and to pay her debts.
One day the daughter gets the money where her mom deposits all the money she earns to pay her debt. She calls her friend home to repay her debts, on searching the whole house she does not get the money. She says that all her money is gone and her friend feels that she has cheated her.
Sujata does not understand where her money goes she eventually leaves the school. The daughter is delighted and she was the one who took her mom's hard earned money and buys the clothes, bags etc. Her mom comes to know about it and beats her and asks her that do you ever know the consquence and cries her out. The daughter continues with the study and so does Sujata. However, he meets an accident and is kept on ICU. Her daughter breakdowns seeing her and aks for forgiveness. Later it is shown that mom and daughter both pass the xth standard. The girl goes on to become the IAS officer and dedicates her success to her mom. P.S - It was Sujata's wanting of her daughter to be an IAS officer after she meets an IAS officer herself.
